Movie Poster

I went with my original idea for my poster. The mock up I did earlier holds the general idea I ended up using. I didn't want there to be too much information. I felt I should use a lot of ratings as that is something most people look at when they think about going to a film or not. I've used conventional colours that are associated with horror/thriller movies and the expression on Rebecca's face I feel is very eye-catching and is a good advertisement for the movie.

Story Overview

The outline of our story was that Richard killed Rebecca who trusted him. When another moves into her old house, he sets his eyes on her and the ghost of Rebecca is trying to warn Rachel. We tried to make the trailer ambiguous. For instance, we didn't want to make it clear if Rebecca was trying to help Rachel or if she was jealous of the attention Rachel was getting from Rebecca. However, we do know Rachel is the potential victim and Richard is a killer.

Costume List

The clothing used was casual/everyday wear the the actors/actresses would generally wear. We had to make sure they were wearing them consistently through certain shots. There was a also a jacket that Rebecca's character wore when she was killed, and she continues to wear this when she is dead/haunting Rachel's character. However this was only a subtle factor in the trailer, and is probably not recognized when watched only a couple of times.

Venue List and Risk Assessment

These locations provided us with the scenery and mis en scene that our shots needed. Some close ups we were able to do in Deyes High School as the background was not important. Long shots and panning shots were done in Spinny Woods and Spinny Close as we needed the mis en scene to fit in with the story or what was happening.

For risk assessment, we had to be sure that when running, there would be nothing in the way which could cause somebody to get hurt. So we checked the pathways where the characters had to walk. Also, we had to a number of high shots and therefore stand on a stable platform in order to get these shots. This was done in a safe manner, as we checked that the platform would not fail to keep the camera up.

Analysis of Posters

The poster for the film Monster, has colour themes that imply it is to do with something historic (with a dull background and neutral colours) and murder (the colour of the the words 'Monster' being in red.) The expressions on both characters faces show ditress and that there's something wrong. Charlize Theron's character is clearly poor. We can see this through what clothes she is wearing, the definition on her aging face and her hair looks uncared for. We also know it is mainly about her as she stands in front of Christina Ricci's character. "Based on a true story" tends to attract attention as people would prefer to see something with a glimpse of truth in than being entirely fiction. Christina Ricci's character looks almost airbrushed, possibly implying that she is fiction and the character who Charlize Theron is playing is the real person in the film. It is clear this film is not telling a happy story, and is clear it is about poor people. The names of the actresses stand out more than they would if the actresses where unknown. This could be to attract attention because they don't look like they usually do.




The poster for American Psycho has colour themes that suggest it is a dark, dreary film. The expression on Christian Bale's face shows he is up to something, and that he is neither innocent or happy. The rich purple and blue colours in this poster also show that he is of a high class, and his clothes shows he has a well paid job. He looks clean and well-kept, so the knife is even more shocking when in contrast with these factors. The words 'Killer looks' mean two things. That he is a good looking person, that many women may go for, and the word 'killer' along with knife prove it is indeed about murder, and he will be the murderer in the film. Possibly murdering the women who find him so attractive.
